In 2006, my friend Joe Doyle and I started our own agency called, Stallife Inc. In our first year we wanted to make a splash to set us out from the rest of the clutter of agencies. Holiday videos and promotions were big at the time for agencies to make the “coolest” ones. We took the approach of making a promo for a “holiday” that isn’t really a holiday, The Great American Smokeout, which at the time we made the video, wasn’t really “celebrated” or taught in school like it had been in the 80’s and 90’s.
How did we honor the time honored tradition to encourage people to quit tobacco? By having an actor friend (David Dastmalchian) dress up in a cigarette costume and get pummeled by kids with dodgeballs, fired from work, assalted in a park and broken up with.
It truely was A Bad Day for Wynston.
